PE update

PE will now be on a Monday and Friday. Please read on…

As was explained to the PFA at the last meeting, the recruitment and deployment of PE teachers is managed at SBC HQ. For a number of reasons, there has been a delay in recruiting a replacement for Mrs Henry. Before Christmas, a new teacher was interviewed and appointed. However, the initial allocation of 2 days of PE has not yet been achieved. As a result, our new teacher, Mr Sutton, will start teaching at Coldingham on a Friday morning and Mrs Thompson will continue to teach PE on a Monday until a permanent solution is found. Whilst the recruitment process continues to be somewhat problematic, we are confident that the pupils’ learning in PE has not and will not be affected.

RHET Tractor Visit

A tractor will visit every primary school in the Scottish Borders on Thursday 9 March to raise awareness of educational charity, The Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET). RHET provides a range of free services such as free farm visits for pupils, classroom talks by local farmers, teaching resources and teacher training. During each school visit the pupils will be invited to come out to see the tractor and get their photograph taken. The driver on the tractor will be ready to answer any questions the children may have before heading off to the next school on the tour.

As part of the tractor tour, RHET will be creating a recipe book. Recipes for the book will be gathered from each school, with a focus on the use of produce from the Scottish Borders. The recipe book will be on sale in May, with the proceeds of each sale going towards continuing the work of RHET in the Borders. The books will be available on the RHET website and also sold at agricultural shows and at some of the primary schools. If you have a recipe you would like to share please hand it in to the school office.

If you would like to support the ongoing work of RHET, please consider sending a donation to school on Thursday. Thank you

We are currently pruning our Willow Whale and will be selling bundles of Willow for £5. Thank you to our volunteers. If you would like to start your own growing Willow Structure it is so easy and the results are fantastic. You could make a growing tunnel or a play house for your children.
