ELC Newsletter Oct Nov 2019

Staffing – We would like to wish Mrs Anderson all the very best and welcome Mrs Jack who will be covering Mrs Anderson’s maternity leave.

Autumn – We shall be looking closely at autumn and the changes around us when we return from our mid-term break. This will include village and woodland walks – please ensure all children come dressed appropriately for the weather.

Story Sacks – ELC has a selection of 20 story sacks which we send home from October to April. They go home on a Tuesday until a week on Thursday. This gives families the opportunity to read stories together, play the games, watch the DVDs or listen to the CDs. Please ensure your child is supervised while using a story sack to help minimise breakages, losing parts etc. We are aware this is inevitable from time to time and we ask all breakages etc be reported to staff to allow replacement items to be sourced.

Open Mornings – Coldingham ELC offer stay and play sessions for all parents / grandparents / carers. We have a timetable of available dates on the parent’s notice board if you would like to come in to observe your child during their learning in ELC.

Halloween Party – Thursday 31 October we shall have an afternoon of party games and party food. Please feel free to send your child with a dressing up outfit for the occasion.

Parent partnership meetings – To ensure we keep parents fully informed of developments within our ELC we plan to introduce parent get-togethers, approximately every six weeks. These will take place on a Friday morning after drop off. We will meet in the school and over coffee and cake will discuss the chosen topic. Some topics we will look at will be:-

  • Learning stories and early level curriculum
  • Emergent literacy
  • Emergent numeracy
  • Transition into school
  • Outdoors & loose parts
